Circumnavigating Brand Rebranding

October 15, 2025 by [email protected]

Did you know that ACCPAC is now called Sage 300? In the US PeachTree is now referred to as Sage 50, but Sage 50 in the UK was a product for companies with about 50 employees. MAS 90 and MAS 200 are now known as Sage 100, and Sage 200 is not an upgrade from Sage 100; it’s a separate UK product aimed at companies with about 200 employees. However, Sage 100 is not limited to 100 or 1,000 employees; it can support up to 46,656 separate company codes under a single license, if have enough drive space. Sage X3, is not an experiment, but another product once called Adonix X3, then Sage ERP X3, then just Sage X3. No, X3 is not X to the power of 3…but it’s easy to confuse it if you were in the UK and knew Sage 50 for 50 employees or Sage 200 for 200 employees. There is no UK Sage 100 or Sage 150. Does the UK not have companies with say 100-150 employees? There is Sage 100 in Germany with features such as online trading and point-of-sale, even CAD for more advanced production features. It gets confused with Sage 100 (US), which is sort of in the cloud or can be installed that way, and does not have online trading or CAD. Sage CRE was once known as TimberLine, which made sense as it’s software for the construction industry, and timber, well, is a building material. CRE, looks like a realtor designation, and at least does correlate to Construction and Real Estate, and has no number designation, I wonder if the number made it too broad or too restrictive. Sage CRE 200, only 200 offices? Sage CRE 100, only 100 parcels? Sage CRE 50, 50 contractors? At least the rebrand of TimberLine escaped the numerical ranking and its limitation. DacEasy was once a Sage product, and Simply Accounting too. Dac never made sense to me, easy does, its simple too. There is Sage for Accountants, and, well, it’s for accountants — which is oddly clear.
Let’s not forget that Sage acquired Intacct. When they brought the cloud product into the family, they left part of the name intact, so to speak.
So if you mention you use Sage, need Sage, or have worked with Sage, it’s best to specify — just a word to the wise.
